1948 MG TC Entex 1/16

Post by edsreef@gmail.com »

Greetings. Just thought I would post a few pictures of the MG TC I am working on. Needed a little break from the Jaguars. This is one of the kits I bought some time ago, always liked the look of these cars since I was young. Sort of got hooked on the English sports cars when I was younger. My first was a 1970 TR-6. Was my daily driver and fun on twisty country roads on summer days. Later, I was fortunate enough to have both a 1964 TR-4 and a 1966 Sunbeam Tiger Mk 1A. Got the TR-4 first and had for a few years and literally by chance, got a Sunday paper on Saturday. Back then the Sunday papers had huge sections of car, truck, etc. for sale. And there is was, Sunbeam Tiger. Called up the seller and made appointment to see first thing Sunday morning. I bought it. Had many fun years of driving both. However, in the end I eventually sold both.

Today, I really wished I had kept the Tiger. I was my favorite one. And with todays prices on them, well... will never have one again.

Anyway, back to the MG TC. First pictures are of a couple of the body parts. As usual, same prep and paint work went into as I did on the Jag. I went to clear coar them last Saturday, and after I finished spraying them, was checking them over. Well almost all of them came out fine, with the exception of 3 parts The 2 side panels of the hood (bonnet) and back "panel" of the body, it loooked like the clear coat ate into the paint. Was not too happy.

So, once dried and cured, stripped the bonnet side panels and sanded down back of body. ( The body is just sitting on the lower part of body) Still need to do some fine sanding on the side panels. Hope to re-paint this weekend. Keep my fingers crossed. Have not had that happen before. The other pictures are of the frame and engine and a few electrical components. Will post some others as build progresses.

Hello again. Time to post a few pictures of the finished MG TC. Looking at it finshed reminded me of when I had my old sports cars and the fun I had driving around in them. Somwtimes I do wish that I still had one of them. But that is the way it goes, sometimes have to part with some of your toys! Oh well, can still dream when I look at pictures of various ones for sale. Maybe agan someday, never know.

I did cover the seats, rear compartment and the rear cover with leather. Went pretty good. Have some 0.3mm leather, have only been able to find the black leather that thin unfortunately. The other colors I have are 0.5-0.6mm. I used some flocking for the carpet on this. First time have used it. Went pretty smooth.

G'day Ed, Great story and pics. Love hearing about the real cars people have owned, but what are these things you call Sunday Papers??? Just kidding, just trying to get in touch with my younger generation side (failing miserably). Back in the day when you got the Saturday paper to search for a job, red pen in hand sitting by the phone!

I am always impressed by your builds and the cleanliness!!! The lighting looks fantastic. As I commented once before, it's great to see the older style ''yellow'' look headlights. Is that a woodgrain decal I spied on the dash?

That's a shame the clear coat conflicted with the paint. I've actually had a few of my customers over the past couple of months saying the same thing. A long shot but wondering if some of the paint manufacturers have changed their formula?

I think there is also a 1/16 Jaguar SS100 that would look great next to the MG! Have you thought of doing a diorama type setting (like Gilles did with the workshop equipment?). Maybe not to that extent but in a setting? :D

Hello Colin,

Yep, your wood grain decal. I love the look of them and since you told me about covering with the resin, I think the look makes it even better. Gives a bit of depth to it. Really reminds me of the older cars witht he real wood dashes and trim. Older cars had so much more style I think.

I was thinking the same thing about the paint, but it is the old Testors enamel. I have used it many times in the past and clear coated with no problem, so not quite sure what caused it. Just keep fingers crossed it was just a one time fluke.

I have thought about trying a diorama but have just not got to it. I have seen pictures from other folks where they might use a small table outside in the "real world", and tke pictures of the models with actual outdoor backgrounds and they come out really nice. I will post a picture of a Jaguar XKE Coupe, a guy in Gremany did it. He did a great job on the build. The way he took the picture makes it look right on scale with the buildings. I have been thinking about trying that, but have till the rain stops and we get into summer!!

I will have to see if I can find the 1/16 one you mentioned.

Quick thought mate, have a play around with some AI maybe? I've got another customer who built the 1/8 Pocher Porsche and decided to put it in a shopping centre carpark with AI.

Pic attached. Definitely not the same as building a diorama but would make for some great pictures!!

Note: They are my BBS wheels on the Porsche as well - not too shabby if I do say so!
